There are so many things I love about our Mumbai and still there are so many remaining which I would love to change.
1. The Sea-route 2. Beautification of beaches 3.Green Mumbai , Clean Mumbai
4.Rain- Water harvesting 5.Education is children's right not profit making business

1. The Sea-route : I would like to implement the water transport, in the forms
of Catamarans , motorboats etc
This will reduce the traffic on roads. As more people will take this route the traffic
on roads will reduce substantially. The lesser number of vehicles on road will result in decrease in pollution.
2. Beautification of beaches :Starting with Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Girgaon, Dadar, Bandra, Juhu, Versova, Madh, Marve, Manori, Gorai, Vasai etc. I would like to revamp all these beaches with various water amusement parks for children , youth and senior citizens.
3. Green Mumbai , Clean Mumbai : I would relaunch the "Green Mumbai , Clean Mumbai" campaign with earnest. For this project I would gather the support of school / college students , NGOs and off course BMC and Political parties. All of us together will plant saplings on the available land. I would pass a law prohibiting spitting and littering in public places. The culprits would be penalised heavily as in Singapore.
4.Rain- Water harvesting : As of now , only new housing societies are ordered to do rain-water-harvesting , I would request it for all the housing societies so that all Mumbaikar will get enough water through out the year.
5. Government's control on school fees : Education is every child's human right. The school are not profit making pvt. ltd. companies. I would put a limit on the fees charged by certain elitist schools in Mumbai.
Good thoughts Sujata... Better drainage and preventing encroachment of lakes is key, from what we observed in Chennai
ReplyDeleteHi Shrinidhi , Thanks for appreciation. You are right faulty drainage and encroachment of lakes cause flooding in Islands like Mumbai. I have covered this problem in another post "Water Problems-solutions for Mumbai "
ReplyDeleteWish we could bring back the lost glory of all our cities and make them world class in terms of cleanliness, greenery and facilities! Do not know whether I am asking for too much!
