UGC granted Rs. 1.5 crore to KPB Hinduja College, Mumbai

KPB Hinduja college is selected by UGC under its ‘College with Potential for Excellence’ scheme

University Grants Commission (UGC), the apex governing body for universities in the country, recognized KPB Hinduja College as one of the educational institutions under its ‘College with Potential for Excellence’ (CPE) scheme. As a result of the recognition, the Mumbai based college will be awarded a grant of Rs. 1.5 crore to enhance its infrastructure to facilitate its students in achieving higher academic standards. In the current cycle, 350 colleges from across the country had participated in the scheme.

Dr. (Ms.) Minu Madlani, Principal, KPB Hinduja College, while sharing the news with the media,  said, “We are pleased that our College has been selected by the UGC under its prestigious CPE scheme. The recognition by the UGC is a result of the encouragement provided to our students and research scholars by our college for publishing their research papers in various national and international publications as well as the overall development showcased by various departments of the college in harnessing excellence.”

Dr. TA Shiwar, Director (Education), Smt. P.D. Hinduja Trust, that runs the college, said, “ Our college has excelled in the field of research and consultancy in the last few years consistently, and we are glad that our efforts have been recognized by the UGC. In addition to the academic excellence, we also make sure that the college excels in areas that help students gain all-round development of their personality. We will ensure that the funds we receive are used appropriately in our bid to achieve the targets set by the UGC.”

The Potential for Excellence award by UGC was instituted close to a decade ago in a bid to encourage colleges to reach global standards of education. Under the scheme, colleges are given specific targets in order to qualify for the CPE status following which the respective colleges are conferred upon with the title of ‘Colleges with Excellence’. The two-pronged scheme enables colleges to get CPE status first and if they achieve their targets by the end of three years, they are awarded the title of 'Colleges with Excellence'.

K.P.B Hinduja college of Commerce was established in 1974 by late Shri Parmanand Deepchand Hinduja, founder of the Hinduja group.
